It works exactly as desired. It is built with thought and useful specs. I do wish the bluetooth was stronger as the strength of connection drops EXTREMELY quickly if you are not right on top of it.
Otherwise I'm quite happy.
I wish there were more instructions or documentation on how to use the product.
GPS has me several kilometers away from my actual position
Specs and all, yes. But what does this doe actually? It connects as a mesh device, we get that. Then what?type a message on a phone?
I was torn between 4 and 5 because of one flaw, but I can’t see any better node for EDC currently, so it’s 5
I like the design and build. I immediately put a stubby antenna and it’s pretty pocketable as long as antenna is safe. The builtin antenna as in original version would make it even more pocketable, so looking forward for it if any plans, but otherwise it’s good enough and it’s nice to have an option for better antenna. Printing around the loop hole have an imperfections but I can live with it
The range is great for a pocket node, even with a stubby antenna. Everyone prizes T1000E, but always skips the important part: transmission. See, this is communication device, not just for listening and this is where R1 Neo shines. I was able to transmit a message directly to my home 2.5 kilometres away through the urban area with both nodes being placed in hands. Which is an absolutely fantastic transmission result in my opinion.
The battery life also excels. I configured GPS to read every five minutes and transmit position if I move, which is good enough and still get almost two days. Three days is achievable with lower poll rate.
Weather proofing is a very welcome addition for EDC node. Haven’t tested it too much yet though
The only serious flaw it have is BLE range. It’s very weak and really works reliably when it’s in a pocket not so far from the phone. Not great
