This is a nice Meshtastic device. It has very good battery life and gets out quite well. I'm using it with the IOS app, which is a bit quirky, when it set up the default channel, it did not give it a name. Once I named it to match the public channel being used in our area, it started working as expected. Initially, the device received lots of nodes, but I wasn't able to send/receive messages. With the correct channel name, everything began functioning normally. The R1 itself is solid and I like it. I can't locate the Reset button, but it's easy to use the software to put the device in boot loader mode for firmware updating. In all, I give it a top rating!
I love the way this is designed. Not only because of its compact usability, but the simple construction as well. I don't recommend disassembling it for fun, but if you need to repair it, you can disassemble it without parts flying everywhere, and with a little care you can put it back together just like new. This was built to be able to be maintained, not thrown away.
I had some minor questions about mine and reached out to ask and they were quick to reply and very helpful. My experience there left me with even more confidence that they stand behind their products. If you're looking for a way to jump into experimenting with Meshtastic like I was I highly recommend MuziWorks' offerings.
The best node you have is the one you don’t even notice.
Quick response about questions.
Love the units! I bought 2 R1s, 1 with the external antenna and 1 with the internal snubby antenna. The tether point on both cases should be moved to the left to a balanced point so the antennas hang vertical! I hang them from my car rear view mirrors or a hook on a window.
