The parts of the case that clip together broke the first time I took the case apart, so now it’s loose and only held together by one screw. Sometimes the best design is one with more than one screw instead of a clear 3D mode rendered in crappy materials.
The battery is also way undersized for this chip. It would be better to have a bigger case. Kinda defeats the purpose of a super portable node if the battery lasts less than a day on a full charge.
The antenna is the most basic possible, the kind that comes with any bare bones kit from amazon.
Really the only thing extra you’re getting here is not having to flash the software yourself and a cool looking case. I really don’t think that’s worth the extra $25-30, especially since it’s 3D printed in poor quality plastic using a filament printer, with lots of random noodly lines and lumpy edges. I thought I was getting a professional case, not some kid’s first hackerspace project.
I got the same exact radio with a 4x battery ready to plug in, pin strips & random extra cables for $25. I used the plastic box it came in and stuff from around my house to make a perfectly workable portable case. It’s an objectively better radio for half the cost.
Make a professionally fabricated case, throw in a better antenna, and I’d say this was reasonable. As is, I feel like I overpaid.
The product is amazing, very well made.
Pretty slick and easy for those new to Meshtastic. Looking at wisblocks as my next purchase, fun hobby.
Just discovered Meshastic and Muziworks and cant wait to see the growth and mesh growth.
I received my ready-to-use H1 and a case with accessories to complement the basic Heltec V3 unit I already own, as well as whip antennas. This is astoundingly great! Flashing with the newest firmware (2.5.15 as of the time of this writing) was easy and they recognized each other immediately!
I only have two concerns; the first is that I don't exactly know where a GPS module would fit alongside everything else, if there's ways to do that without having to resort to a different case or an auxiliary module, I'd love to know. The second major issue is that the 3d printing ended up covering up the LED holes; I had to bore them out myself with an X-acto knife (hence why I can't give 5 stars). Other than that, assembly was surprisingly straightforward, and everything fits tight!
