Getting Started

Plug-in the USB-C Cable First
For the initial set-up process to ensure settings are applied correctly.
After changing certain settings via the Meshtastic app on battery power, upon save the device will start to reboot but you willl need to press the button to turn the R1 Neo back on.
  • Download the official Meshtastic app to your phone (Apple App Store link / Google Play Store link)
  • Press the button at the top of the R1 Neo to turn it on
  • Find the device (code is on your Quick Start), pair with the Meshtastic app, bluetooth pairing code is 123456
    [Note: Pairing from your phone's Bluetooth settings will not work. If you do delete device and repair within the Meshtastic app]
  • Set your region (e.g. US) and tap save, the R1 Neo will reboot and reconnect via Bluetooth automatically

You are ready to mesh!
Head to the Primary Channel in the app to chat on the public mesh.

Button Operation

  • Long press (5 seconds): Shutdown device
  • Double press: Send ad-hoc ping
  • Triple press: Toggle GPS on/off
  • Hold for 8 seconds: Enter DFU mode for firmware update
    [Note: while in DFU mode, single press to exit]

Flashing Firmware

  • Open the official Meshtastic web flasher on your computer
  • Click Select Target Device and choose muzi R1 Neo
  • Choose your firmware version, we generally recommend the latest beta
  • Click the Flash button and navigate to the Download UF2 button to download the firmware file
  • Connect the R1 to the computer via the included USB-C cable
  • Hold the button for 8 seconds to enter DFU mode (indicator will flash purple)
  • Drag and drop the firmware file to your device that will show up as an external drive name R1-Neo
    [Note: When the firmware completes uploading the drive will abruptly disconnect, sometimes displaying an error. This is normal]
  • Firmware is now flashed, device will reboot and your app will remember how to reconnect to it

Bootloader

R1 Neo's bootloader is open source and based on the Adafruit nRF52 Bootloader and the source code is available on our GitHub here.
